ABOUT US

Areopagus Ministries is focussed on equipping and nurturing Christian influencers, leaders and pastors to speak effectively and persuasively to our post-Christian culture. Founded over 30 years ago, Areopagus Ministries operates under the auspices of the Areopagus Trust (Registered Charity number 1020468) which was founded in 1993 to support the ministry of Richard and Ruth Cunningham.

The residential training, nurturing and mentoring ministry takes place at ‘The Mill’. For the past three decades, generations of students and Christian workers and influencers have been invited to be part of these conferences and gatherings from which so much significant ministry has emerged.

How do public facing Christians (not least church leaders) communicate the truth, relevance and beauty of the gospel without compromising the gospel or withdrawing from our dying culture that so desperately needs the salt and light of Christian presence and proclamation?

Those invited to these residential training conferences give a short talk, which is reviewed in detail to help each participant be aware of the presuppositions and sensibilities of their audience and to be engaging and persuasive in prosecuting false and inadequate views of God, humanity and human flourishing. If Christian faith is regarded as regressive and dangerous, then public-facing Christians need to be confident and articulate in their proclamation and able to identify sympathetically with unbelievers as they aim to speak persuasively of the truth, relevance, and beauty of the Christian gospel.  Our training aims to give Christian leaders and influencers greater confidence to speak engagingly and persuasively to our beleaguered culture and to help expose the bankruptcy of certain post-Christian ideas, not least where a virulent cultural Marxism has intruded.

About R&R

For the past 33 years Richard and Ruth Cunningham have been welcoming groups to The Mill for training, refreshment and mentoring. They have 5 adult children and (currently) 6 grandchildren. Even when they are not running formal training conferences, Richard and Ruth are constantly inviting couples and families to come for rest and refreshment.

Richard says: ‘The need of the hour seems to be for front-facing Christians to be equipped with the confidence and tools to be able to speak engagingly, relevantly and persuasively into the many contested areas that our post-Christian society is constantly spawning. In recent months we have hosted twelve formal residential conferences that have focussed on helping Pastors, politicians, professional musicians and others in public life to do just that. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and we already have another 20 such events booked in for the coming academic year. Do please pray for this ministry.’
